Frozen Lake Adventure

This past weekend we had a frozen lake adventure at Lago di Braies in Italy.

So many people were there, which left me in total shock at the flood of traffic pulling into the area.

Thinking back upon the day, I have a feeling it was because the lake was frozen and covered in snow (because it isn’t anymore).

There were only a few little open ice spots,

which were extremely slippery when stepped on.

Believe me, I tried it ūüėõ

I went with my husband and another couple.

We ate lunch at the only hotel/restaurant on the grounds.

The menu consisted of an Austrian and an Italian mix since this lake is close to the border.

I had goulash with gnocchi.

The views were spectacular, too.

Especially because the day was clear and sunny,

but still below zero and cold.

The IceMan

Iceman in Bolzano, Italy

Today I’ll be sharing about the time I explored an ancestor of the human race: The IceMan.

Ozti is his name and he¬†dates back 5000 years, now that’s old!

And get this,

in Bolzano, Italy there’s an entire museum dedicated to him.

It’s mind-blowing how far we’ve progressed as a race,¬†aka once being cavemen/women.

Aren’t you¬†glad you live in the present time?

I am, for sure!¬†ūüôā

You can take a good look at Ozti, in wax and real form, by watching the fun video I made below.

It’s quite¬†an old video, which is part of my¬†attempt to have a Vlog channel on Youtube about 3 years ago,¬†
hence the end saying Our Vlog Adventures.
I still film and edit videos on different occasions, now and then, just not enough to run a channel off it.

The IceMan

Bolzano is a gorgeous area in Italy’s Alps.
I went during the holidays,
which is a perfect time to go if you like Christmas Markets.
There’s a nice mixture of¬†Italian and Germanic¬†culture within Bolzano’s¬†population.
I highly recommend¬†it as a place to visit if you’re into hiking, winter sports, or if you want to meet Ozti.
My favorite part of the city is its Dolomite views!

Overalls in Montenegro

One of the most scenic places I’ve recently gone¬†to was Montenegro.

Seriously, if you don’t have this place on your list then definitely add it!

Montenegro http://www.wheremyheartwanders.com

Montenegro http://www.wheremyheartwanders.com

It’s a small country along the east coast of Europe, with only 626,291 in population, and it’s absolutely fabulous!

We docked in Kotor, Montenegro while on our cruise.

This port surrounds the essence of its country’s Spanish name: black mountains.

I wore my overalls, a flowered top, and strappy sandals for a spring look.

I’m quite busty, so having one strap free helped me not to be smooched.

A fallen strap is also pretty cute, ¬†I think ūüėČ

When we arrived at our port, we were greeted by a taxi driver who offered us a 2-hour tour for 20 euros each.

This seemed like a great cheap way to get around for the short time we had,

so we said yes to Miko.

Montenegro http://www.wheremyheartwanders.com

He first took us to Perast to see the Lady on the Rock,

which is the name of a church on a very small island.

We paid 5 euro for a round trip boat ride to the island,

where we could stay as long as we liked but decided 15 minutes was enough.

Then we enjoyed a drink by water:

A local brew.

Next was a drive to the top,

for a panoramic sight of Kotor.

Miko recommended Galion for a seafood lunch,

and it was affordably upscaled.

Galion in Montenegro http://www.wheremyheartwanders.com  Galion in Montenegro http://www.wheremyheartwanders.com

The food was good because we were starving. It took over an hour for it to come out of the kitchen.

The apologetic server kept giving us hope while we waited.

At least we were given this bread to snack on

food at Galion in Montenegro http://www.wheremyheartwanders.com

and I ordered pumpkin soup as an appetizer.

After watching the clouds roll over the mountains all day,

the rain finally poured while we ate.

A few rounds of drinks later (because it’s cheaper off the boat), we boarded back onto The Majestic Princess and left Montenegro.

But ohh…¬†I would go back!

Shanghai: the city with the best skyline

shanghai skyline

If you’ve been following me you’d know that recently I was in China, and one of my¬†stops was Shanghai: the city with the best skyline.

Shanghai skyline www.wheremyheartwanders.com

Those lights are fantastic, and they change colors/ads/sayings often.

(One of the buildings below has I love Shanghai on it.)

Shanghai skyline www.wheremyheartwanders.com

I would see instagram¬†photos of this skyline from other travellers and say to myself, “I have to go there!”

I knew it was going to be spectacular upon arrival, but it was even more incredible in person!

We stood for a view on what they call the bund, an area along the river that faces the skyscrapers.

Shanghai skyline www.wheremyheartwanders.com

Shanghai skyline www.wheremyheartwanders.com

If you’re ever in Shanghai and having trouble navigating just tell a taxi driver ‘the bund’ and you’ll be sure to get there.

Shanghai: the city with the best skyline

When we first went to the bund, during the day, lots of fog covered the air.

So the glorious skyline wasn’t so glorious.

Shanghai China www.wheremyheartwanders.com

Which is why it’s better to see it at night, with all the lights ūüôā

We also walked around and explored the city a little bit.

Shanghai China www.wheremyheartwanders.com

Shanghai China www.wheremyheartwanders.com

Crazy story time: our tour guide gave us precise instructions not talk and/or follow strangers.

Well, we had a guy come up to us and we did it anyways to find a new luggage.

We ended up at this market under a large parking garage, and the whole thing seemed shady.

A girlfriend and I were sceptics from the get-go, as we followed our husbands and some strange man across the city.

But in the end, the place was legit,

and an adventure I’ll never forget.

———–

We also visited the Garden of Shanghai.

It’s a beautiful sanctuary in the¬†center of the city, and I recommend it.

During our stay in Shanghai, Isaias decided to shoot some video with his Samsung phone,

and I recently made a short video of these captures.

We also visited a water town on the outskirts of Shanghai (read post here).

You can watch the video below.

The Great Wall of China

On a hazy cold morning, I arrived at the Great Wall of China.

The Great Wall of China at Juyongguan www.wheremyheartwanders.com

Pulling up in our coach, views of the wall nestled on mountain tops brought tears to my eyes with amazement. Thoughts like, “I’m here; It’s beautiful; Wow, I can’t believe it” flashed through my mind and stirred up my emotions.

China: Forbidden City and Tea House

Nin Hao (hello) and Morning from Beijing, China ūüôā
In this post, I will talk about The Forbidden City and a Chinese Tea House. It’s where we spent our time Wednesday.

First off, how great is it that my website is working in China. Social media, not so much¬†unless it’s through my husband’s vpn. But that’s a story I will share with you later.

Anyways, I’m pretty excited to be writing you in real time about my experiences here in China. I’m trying to stay committed to you all; I appreciate my readers. There’s also a gift basket in the works for a winning subscriber, too ūüôā

Let’s get to the Forbidden City, shall we…

This palace was the home of emperors for almost 500 years in China, and it’s located in the heart of Beijing.

From the years 1420 to 1912, dynasties from the Ming to the Qing ruled here.

And hosts 980 buildings on 180 acres.

It took us 3 hours to walk through the main pathway of this Forbidden City.

It’s amazing that people used to live here.

Now, its beauty is adored by thousands of tourist each day.

After our guided tour through the Forbidden City, we went to a traditional Chinese tea house.

We watched a demonstration about the natural teas.

I personally liked the Ginseng tea, which looked like black clay rocks.

Chinese ginsing tea

We were served the ginseng tea in a traditional cup like this.

Then told to pick it up and flip it over.

It’s now ready to taste, but first, the proper way to hold and drink the tea.

Yes, with the fingers sticking out and all. This is considered a delicate way to hold the tea cup and acted out by women.

I also thought the rose tea was delicious and so pretty!Chinese Rose Tea

I bought different kinds of herbal Chinese teas and I am including a package in my subscriber gift basket ūüôā

hotel Esplanade in Zagreb Croatia www.wheremyheartwanders.com

Esplanade is in the heart of the city, walking distance from all the main attractions.

It’s pretty cheap too, for a 5 star hotel. Thanks to the Kuna (Croatian Currency).

hotel Esplanade in Zagreb Croatia www.wheremyheartwanders.com

The hotel’s pictures match those on booking.com.

And the only disappointing factor about Esplanade, in my opinion, was being denied to eat:

they didn’t have enough space for their guests for lunch/dinner at their restaurant.

This left us hungry and looking for food elsewhere.

At least, for next time, we’ll know to make reservations ūüėČ

Hope you had a fabulous holiday!

And this is a short post because I’m off to China, tomorrow ūüôā
