The Great Wall of China

On a hazy cold morning, I arrived at the Great Wall of China.

Pulling up in our coach, views of the wall nestled on mountain tops brought tears to my eyes with amazement. Thoughts like, “I’m here; It’s beautiful; Wow, I can’t believe it” flashed through my mind and stirred up my emotions.

Just about 62km from Beijing, Juyongguan pass awaits.

Built over 1000 years ago in the first Chinese dynasty (The Qin dynasty) Juyongguan is known for its steep climbs.

Tourist are encouraged to ‘Be The Hero’ as they embark on the same journey Chinese Dynasties did for decades.

But the truth is, not everyone makes it up.

I pushed any fears aside to became a ‘hero’ in this once in a lifetime moment.

I’m a small town girl from Northwest Florida,

and even though The Great Wall has been on my bucketlist for years, I never thought I’d actually do it.

But on December 30, 2016 I climbed The Great Wall of China

and it was worth it!
